The Rancia vineyard is Fèlsina's profound single-vineyard declaration, sourced from the historic Castelnuovo Berardenga area where stony alberese limestone meets galestro marl. The 100% Sangiovese wine is meticulously crafted: following a hand harvest, it rests for up to 20 months in new French oak before extended bottle aging. Presenting this 2015 vintage in the Magnum (1.5L) format offers a superior aging environment. The ratio of wine volume to cork surface is optimized in the Magnum, slowing the wine's evolution and preserving its youthful vibrancy longer than the standard bottle. The result is a deep ruby-red wine with a spicy nose, firm but supple tannins, and a vigorous acidity that promises decades of compelling flavor. This format is the collector's choice for sharing a milestone vintage.

Showing dark fruit and etched mineral nuances that recall pencil shavings or shale, the Fèlsina 2022 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Rancia is extremely elegant, tight and focused in this vintage. That's usually the character of this distinct wine that always ranks as one of my favorites in this excellent portfolio. The tightness of the mouthfeel folds into elegantly fine tannins. It matures in barrique, both first- and second-fill, for 18 to 20 months. This wine was first produced in 1983, but it reached Gran Selezione status in 2021. Production is 45,000 bottles.

Silky, sensual and finessed to the core, the 2015 is absolutely stellar. The ripeness of the tannins allows the natural radiance of the year to come through loud and clear. The 2015 is a special. Rancia is quite simply one of the world's greatest and most iconic wines.
