Distilled continuously at the Black Friars Distillery since 1793, this historic South West English bottling represents a distinct regional style that contrasts with the aggressive, pine-dominated bite of standard London Dry. The production framework balances resinous juniper against an elevated proportion of sweet Spanish orange peel, lemon zest, fragrant green cardamom, and a grounding subterranean base of angelica and orris root. Blended with naturally soft, low-mineral water sourced directly from Devon's Dartmoor reservoir, the distillate captures a rounder, silkier mouthfeel without requiring added sugar or post-distillation glycerols.

Aromatics lean fresh and citrus-driven rather than austere, opening with sweet orange blossom and cracked coriander before softening into cooling, mentholated cardamom. Palate weight is medium-bodied and notably supple, allowing the essential oils to glide over the tongue rather than prickle with sharp heat. In-house testing at USQ showed that this mellow, root-grounded profile prevents acidic cockails from turning harsh. Our team recommends stirring a textbook Dry Martini: combine 2.5 oz Plymouth Gin with 0.5 oz Dolin Dry Vermouth and 2 dashes orange bitters over cracked ice, straining into a chilled Nick & Nora glass with an expressed orange peel. It also provides the quintessential base for a Southside, shaken with 2 oz gin, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.75 oz simple syrup, and 6-8 fresh mint leaves, double-strained up.
