L. N. Mattei Cap Corse Blanc is the quintessential aperitif of Corsica, a territory whose history is defined by French, Italian, and North African influences. Since its creation in 1872 by Louis-Napoléon Mattei, this Quinquina has stood as the oldest and best-known spirit from the island. The recipe is rooted in the beneficial properties of cinchona bark (quinine), which the founder discovered and brought back from the Caribbean to blend with local wines. The blend is still meticulously made today, with all macerations, aging, and bottling done in-house by the family.
This aperitif is built on an all-mistelle base of Vermentinu and Muscat Petit Grains, lending a superior minerality, acidity, and pronounced floral tones. What truly defines its unique Corsican profile is the inclusion of the local Cedrat fruit (a thick-peeled ancestor of the lemon), which provides exceptional citrus aroma and a silky texture. The quinine bitterness is perfectly balanced by the wine's acidity and sweetness. Among blanc quinquinas, this one is supremely versatile, fantastic simply served on ice with tonic or soda, and a brilliant, complex partner for both gin and agave spirits in classic cocktails.
