Bollinger Special Cuvee Brut Non-Vintage is a standout champagne that proves a non-vintage wine can be truly exceptional. In 1911, the British agent for the house insisted the name "non-vintage" did not do justice to the quality in the bottle. He suggested "Special Cuvee," and the name remains today. This wine reflects the unwavering style of the Bollinger family, who have crafted wines in the region since 1829.
The blend relies heavily on Pinot Noir, which makes up sixty percent of the recipe. This grape gives the wine its famous structure and body. The fruit comes primarily from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards, ensuring top-tier quality. A key secret to the flavor profile is the use of reserve wines. Some of these reserves age in magnums for up to fifteen years before being added to the final blend. This adds layers of richness you rarely find in other bottles.
In the glass, the wine shows a golden color with very fine bubbles. The nose is complex, offering scents of roasted apples, ripe peaches, and warm spices. On the palate, the bubbles feel like velvet. You will taste notes of pear, fresh brioche, and walnut. It finishes with a lively energy that makes it perfect for a celebration or a simple gathering with friends.
