Matured for 39 months in virgin Hungarian oak, this single-cask bottling highlights the dense grain structure and distinct spice contribution characteristic of Quercus petraea cooperage. Distillers Axel and William Krassell distilled estate-grown Java sugarcane juice on their proprietary continuous Krassel column still in Santa María Tlalixtac, fermenting the fresh-pressed vesou in stainless steel tanks using only wild airborne yeasts. Cellared in their humid aging room to slow evaporation to a restrained 9% angel's share, the rum was pulled as a zero-additive, cask-strength parcel yielded at 55.9% ABV, producing an allocation of just 299 bottles.

A dense aromatic wave of cracked star anise, freshly grated nutmeg, green cardamom pod, and milled oats leads on the nose. The palate enters with significant viscosity, coating the mouth in beeswax, warm banana bread, and cold-pressed orange oil, before shifting toward a savory saline snap of cracked green olive. Structurally, the Hungarian oak contributes firm, taut wood tannins that keep the rich grain notes from reading overly confectionary. In-house evaluations at USQ proved this savory-sweet tension makes a remarkable twist on a classic Presidente: stir 1.5 oz Cask #296 with 0.75 oz blanc vermouth, 0.25 oz dry curaçao, and a barspoon of grenadine over ice, straining into a chilled coupe with an orange peel.
