Benanti Etna Rosso 2022 showcases the dramatic volcanic soils of Mount Etna. Sourced from vineyards on the north, southeast, and southwest slopes, this red wine thrives at high altitudes ranging from 450 to 900 meters. The mountain climate provides bright sunshine, cool breezes, and sharp temperature shifts, which help the grapes develop intense flavors.
The blend features mostly Nerello Mascalese mixed with a touch of Nerello Cappuccio. The vines range from ten to sixty years old, planted in sandy, mineral-rich volcanic earth. During the October harvest, workers carefully pick the grapes by hand. Back at the winery, the two grape varieties are fermented separately in stainless steel tanks using native yeasts. To preserve the fresh fruit character, the Nerello Cappuccio ages entirely in stainless steel. Meanwhile, a small portion of the Nerello Mascalese rests in used French oak barrels for eight to ten months. This process adds subtle texture without hiding the natural volcanic energy.
In the glass, the wine displays a pale ruby red color. The nose is intense and airy, offering bright aromas of ripe red berries. On the palate, it is perfectly dry and highly mineral. A pleasant, savory acidity creates a balanced and persistent finish. This harmonious red is incredibly versatile at the dinner table. It pairs beautifully with roasted red meats and aged cheeses, yet its elegant structure allows it to complement white meats and even hearty fish dishes.
