The Bollinger Special Cuvee Brut stands as the definitive, emblematic expression of this historic Champagne house. Its name, coined in 1911 by a British agent, reflects the spirit's subtlety, proving it is far more than a simple non-vintage offering. The Special Cuvée is a testament to Bollinger's ability to recreate a style of unwavering constancy and superior quality year after year, bearing out the house's hallmark expertise. This structure is built upon an intricate assembly of the current harvest and a generous majority of reserve wines, some held for seven to fifteen years in magnums.

The blend features over 85% Grand Cru and Premier Cru fruit, emphasizing the elegance of Pinot Noir at 60%, balanced by 25% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier. This high proportion of top-tier villages differentiates it from most non-vintage bottlings. The wine is aged in the cellar for twice the minimum required time by appellation rules, contributing immense complexity. A moderate dosage of 7 to 8 grams per liter ensures balance. It pours with a beautiful golden color, distinctive of the black grape base, and possesses very fine bubbles. The nose showcases ripe fruit, roasted apples, compote, and spice. On the palate, expect a subtle combination of structure and vivacity, delivering notes of pear, brioche, and fresh walnut on a velvety texture. James Suckling awarded it 93 Points, praising its "mouth-filling creaminess, plus quite an imposing and powerful structure."
