Produced in the village of Podensac within Bordeaux, Lillet Rosé builds its foundation on a blend of Sémillon and red Bordeaux grape varieties combined with house-made fruit macerations. The winemaking team macerates sweet Spanish orange peel, bitter Haitian orange peel, and South American cinchona bark directly in neutral fruit spirit before marrying the infusion into the wine base. Unlike industrial aperitifs rely on heavy corn syrup sweeteners or synthetic color additives, this fortified wine aperitif achieves a delicate balance of crisp acidity and subtle quinine bitterness at a low 17% ABV.
Aromatics open with fresh red berries, orange blossom, and pink grapefruit zest. On the palate, a light-to-medium weight carries vibrant flavors of ripe strawberry, red currant, and juicy citrus, anchored by the subtle structural grip of quinine. In-house testing at USQ showed that its low alcohol and gentle sweetness shine brightest in low-ABV highball builds; our team recommends mixing a Lillet Grapefruit Spritz using 2 oz Lillet Rosé, 1 oz fresh ruby red grapefruit juice, and 2 oz chilled club soda over ice in a wine glass with a grapefruit wheel.
