Showing dark fruit and etched mineral nuances that recall pencil shavings or shale, the Fèlsina 2022 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Rancia is extremely elegant, tight and focused in this vintage. That's usually the character of this distinct wine that always ranks as one of my favorites in this excellent portfolio. The tightness of the mouthfeel folds into elegantly fine tannins. It matures in barrique, both first- and second-fill, for 18 to 20 months. This wine was first produced in 1983, but it reached Gran Selezione status in 2021. Production is 45,000 bottles.
