The Produttori del Barbaresco is the flag bearer for the appellation, a singular cooperative focused entirely on the Nebbiolo grape. Founded in 1958, their non-cru Barbaresco is the cornerstone of their identity, a blend of grapes from across their 120 hectares of member-owned vineyards. This wine is the global synonym for quality and typicality, flawlessly synthesizing the diverse limestone and sandy-veined soils of the Barbaresco zone.
The 2020 vintage presents a medium body with bright red fruit and spicy flavors, concluding with an elegant tannic finish. Winemaking is traditional and precise: the Nebbiolo undergoes a long, controlled 28-day maceration on the skins in stainless steel, followed by 20 months of aging in large 50 hectoliter oak casks. Presenting this wine in the Magnum 1.5L format is ideal for the collector. The increased volume to surface area ratio allows the wine to age at a significantly slower pace, preserving its fresh fruit and elegant structure for up to 20 years. This Magnum is a perfect centerpiece for celebrations and a testament to the cooperative's unwavering quality.
The 2020 Barbaresco boasts an ample set of aromas with wild cherry, blue flower, sweet spice and crushed limestone. As always, the wine paints an exciting and authentic portrait of Nebbiolo, albeit with a little more richness and texture in this vintage. This is especially true in terms of the palate, where the wine offers mid-weight intensity with melting tannins. This ambitious release of 300,000 bottles is slated to hit the market in fall 2023.
