Distilled in London by eighth-generation master distiller Charles Maxwell in traditional small copper pot stills, this bottling is engineered to reflect the structured, juniper-heavy profiles that defined Victorian-era London Dry after the landmark Gin Act of 1751. Rather than softening the botanical bill with contemporary floral or fruit-heavy top notes, the distillation anchors itself firmly on pungent wild juniper, counterweighted by the subtle licorice warmth of star anise and bitter Mediterranean citrus peels. Because it adheres to rigorous London Dry processing rules, all flavors derive entirely from the pot still run without post-distillation sweetening or cold-compounded concentrates.
Palate weight is medium-bodied, crisp, and direct, leading with sharp pine needle and cracked coriander before star anise and dried orange zest spread across the mid-palate. In-house testing at USQ showed that the dry, licorice-tinged botanical grip makes it particularly effective in bright, citrus-driven sours where it maintains clarity without getting swallowed by acid. For a classic Gimlet, our team recommends shaking 2 oz Gin Lane 1751, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.75 oz simple syrup vigorously with ice, then double-straining into a chilled coupe with a thin lime wheel. It also provides textbook London Dry precision in a savory Gibson, stirred 2.5 oz gin to 0.5 oz dry vermouth over ice and garnished with a cocktail onion.
