Steeped with eight distinct botanicals inspired by the flavors of traditional afternoon tea, Empress 1908 Cucumber Lemon Gin builds on a base of copper-pot-distilled grain spirit in Victoria, British Columbia. Unlike gin styles relying on artificial post-distillation flavoring extracts or heavy sweetening agents, this release utilizes real garden cucumber, lemon peel, orange peel, fragrant jasmine, and warm cardamom alongside core juniper. The result is a clean 42.5% ABV botanical spirit that delivers authentic agricultural freshness while preserving the crisp, piney backbone essential to classic dry gin styles.
A lively nose opens with freshly sliced cucumber, bright lemon zest, jasmine blossom, and crushed cardamom pod. The palate displays a smooth, medium weight with initial bursts of juicy citrus oil and cooling cucumber water before shifting toward warm baking spice and earthy juniper resin on the mid-palate. In-house testing at USQ showed that the spirit's crisp acidity holds up exceptionally well against tonic and sparkling mixers; our team recommends building a Cucumber Lemon Collins by shaking 1.5 oz Empress 1908 Cucumber Lemon Gin, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup with ice, straining into a highball glass over fresh ice, and topping with 2 oz chilled club soda.
