Quinta da Pellada Mulher Nua Tinto 2018 is a rare and special release from one of the most respected names in Portuguese wine. Alvaro Castro, along with his daughter Maria, crafted this wine as a tribute to the full potential of their estate. This specific cuvee, known as the "Naked Vine," has only been produced once before in the history of the winery. It represents a blend from all seven parcels of the Pellada property, showcasing the complete picture of this unique terroir.
The vines used for this red wine are over 75 years old and grow in soils rich in granite, sand, and quartz. Located in the Dao region, the vineyard sits at a high altitude protected by mountains. This "perfect microclimate" allows grapes to ripen slowly, keeping their acidity bright and flavors fresh. The wine is a traditional field blend featuring nearly 50 different grape varieties, with Touriga Nacional making up about 30 percent of the mix.
In the cellar, the winemaking is natural and patient. Fermentation happens spontaneously with indigenous yeasts found on the skins of the grapes. The wine is then aged for 36 months in used oak casks. This long rest softens the wine without overpowering it with oak flavor. The result is a red that is elegant and complex. It offers moderate tannins and a lush texture that coats the palate. The finish is long and persistent, proving that power and grace can go hand in hand.
