Infusing real espresso beans directly into a column-distilled corn vodka base gives Deep Eddy Espresso a structural profile distinct from liqueurs relying on heavy sugar syrups or artificial coffee extracts. By cutting the spirit to 70 proof (35% ABV) and maintaining a low sugar content (2.7g per ounce), the producer avoids the cloying, syrupy weight common to traditional coffee liqueurs. The underlying 10-times distilled corn spirit provides a neutral canvas that allows the dry, roasted character of the coffee beans to take center stage without heavy post-distillation masking agents.
Palate entry reveals an immediate wave of dark roasted espresso beans, bitter cocoa powder, and subtle vanilla bean. The mouthfeel is surprisingly lean and medium-light, driven by clean acidity rather than thick viscosity. On the mid-palate, toasted hazelnut and soft grain notes balance the roast, leading to a crisp, semi-dry finish with a mild caffeine edge (11mg per ounce) and no lingering sticky coating. In-house testing at USQ showed this works best in a simplified Espresso Martini: combine 2 oz Deep Eddy Espresso, 1 oz cold brew concentrate, and 0.5 oz simple syrup shaken vigorously over ice and strained into a chilled coupe.
