Satvrnal Distillery
Melaza con Muck Rum
If you've explored the vibrant cocktail scene in Guadalajara, you've likely encountered the masterful elixirs of Pedro Andrés and Jorge Nájera. As first-generation distillers and the visionary founders of Satvrnal—a small, fiercely independent distillery on the city's outskirts—this dynamic duo is pushing the boundaries of craft spirits. While celebrated locally for an eclectic portfolio that includes gin, absinthe, and banana eau de vie, their small-batch, molasses-based rums are true standouts. Crafted in a custom hybrid column-pot still, Pedro and Jorge's unique expressions brilliantly capture the contemporary, experimental soul of The Rums of Mexico.
Pedro Bautista
Cana Criolla
A second-generation aguardientero, Pedro Bautista stands as one of the last traditional cane distillers in his region. He partners closely with a select group of local farmers along the Río Monteflor, where heirloom Caña Criolla and Caña Roja are nurtured by a historic network of river-fed canals. Harvested at a mature two years of age, the sugarcane is swiftly crushed in a small electric trapiche before undergoing a remarkably slow fermentation—often exceeding twenty days—in closed 1,100-liter tanks. Distilled on the same continuous four-plate copper still Pedro has expertly operated for two decades, this deeply traditional spirit was historically a well-kept secret reserved exclusively for the local community. Today, it offers a rare and authentic glimpse into the heritage of The Rums of Mexico.
Marcos López
Cana Dura & Cana Cristalina
A true agricultural renaissance man, Marcos López brings a deep, holistic connection to the land to every batch he distills. Beyond cultivating and processing sugarcane, Marcos is a dedicated coffee farmer, lime grower, and beekeeper. He inherited the traditional aguardiente trade from his grandfather and his father, Marcos Sr., carrying on a proud, multi-generational legacy. In a profound testament to their craftsmanship, Marcos Sr. not only built the family’s own still by hand, but he also remains the trusted artisan who constructs and repairs equipment for other local rum makers. This deeply rooted spirit beautifully captures the authentic, agrarian heritage of The Rums of Mexico.
Orlando Vásquez
Galdo Rum
A second-generation sugarcane farmer but a first-generation aguardiente producer, Orlando Vásquez brings a uniquely agricultural perspective to The Rums of Mexico. For generations, his family dedicated themselves to the traditional production of unrefined whole cane sugar, known locally as "Panela" or "Piloncillo." Driven by a deep passion for his crop, Orlando ventured into distillation just over a decade ago. By experimenting with both rehydrated Panela and freshly pressed sugarcane juice, he has spent the ensuing years meticulously perfecting his craft. The result is a deeply personal spirit that honors his family's rich farming roots while forging an exciting new path in Mexican rum.
