Louis Roederer Cristal Brut Champagne 2016 is a phenomenal release that captures the perfect harmony of sun and soil. Originally created in 1876 for Emperor Alexander the Second, this iconic wine continues to set the standard for prestige champagne. The 2016 vintage shines with a bright yellow hue and magnificent, slow moving bubbles. It opens with an intense bouquet of white flowers, roasted lemons, and ripe peaches. As the wine breathes, subtle notes of toasted yeast and sea salt emerge.
On the palate, this vintage is incredibly soft and delicate. Ripe Pinot Noir grapes from a warm late summer give the wine a juicy, fleshy texture. Meanwhile, late ripening Chardonnay adds crisp notes of wheat and oyster shell. The mouthfeel is almost like a rich custard, balanced by a sharp, chalky freshness that is a signature of its legendary origin. The finish is long, crystalline, and brilliantly precise.
Produced only in the best years, this wine blends fifty eight percent Pinot Noir and forty two percent Chardonnay sourced from thirty two top tier vineyard plots. A portion of the wine is aged in oak, and it undergoes zero malolactic fermentation to preserve its striking purity. After six years of aging in the cellars and another eight months of rest after disgorgement, the result is a masterpiece. It offers the infinite grace of a classic vintage, meant to age beautifully for decades. This is a brilliant choice
