Post-distillation natural infusions of red rose petals and black carrot give Empress 1908 Elderflower Rose Gin its ruby-jewel color and soft, underlying sweetness. Distilled in Victoria, British Columbia, this small-batch spirit relies on nine all-natural botanicals-including classic juniper, elderflower, lavender, and orange peel-without relying on artificial dyes or synthetic flavor syrups. Unlike heavy gin liqueurs back-sweetened with added sugar, this bottle retains a true 42.5% ABV backbone, allowing crisp juniper resin and citrus oils to anchor the floral botanicals without turning cloying on the palate.
A bright nose leads with sweet elderflower, fresh lavender, and citrus zest, followed by gentle honeyed rose. On the palate, a silky texture carries crisp juniper and juicy orange oil before shifting toward earthy black carrot and a peppery spice finish. In-house testing at USQ showed that the natural botanical pigments react dynamically to citrus acidity in highballs; our team recommends building an Empress Rose Letoile by shaking 1.5 oz Empress 1908 Elderflower Rose Gin, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup with ice, straining into a flute, and topping with 2 oz chilled dry prosecco.
